Popcorn Box Blog Hop 2016 – Frida Kahlo

frida_kahlo_craft_Disclosure:  I was provided with product from several brands including World Market, Kunin Felt, Udderly Smooth and Laura Kelly Designs as part of the “Popcorn Box Blog Party 2016“.  All opinions are 100% my own.  This blog post includes affiliate links.

I am so excited to share a new Popcorn Box Craft with you as part of the Laura Kelly Popcorn Box Blog Hop for 2016.  There are so many amazing bloggers participating in this blog hop, I know you are going to be inspired over and over again.popcorn-party-2016-collage-2

For my box I decided to really think “out of the box”.  I have created a traditional Fall (2014) and traditional Halloween (2015) box in prior hops – this year I needed to really change it up and I sure did!  I went on a vacation to NYC and did a fair share of shopping all over the city, I saw a lot of Frida Kahlo merchandise and have returned INSPIRED to make a Frida Kahlo box!  Here is my supplies list, I am using my favorite KUNIN FELT once again.felt_kunin_mothership_photo

Frida Kahlo Popcorn Box – Craft Supplies

  • Kunin Felt (Classic Felt 9 x 12) in:  Red, Orange, Yellow, Apple Green, Neon Blue, Black
  • Kunin Felt (Presto Felt 9 x 12) in Cashmere Tan  *This felt is awesome as it has an adhesive backing, like a sticker!
  • Scissors
  • Sizzix Big Shot + cutting pads
  • Sizzix Dies to make the flower crown
    • Laura Kelly Designs – Mask #A11129   (For flowers + leaves)
    • Laura Kelly Designs – Flashcard, Lollipop #A11072  (For swirls)
    • Eileen Hull Designs – Flower Layers with Heart Petals #658053  (For flowers)
    • Eileen Hull Designs – Borders & Hydrangeas #657721  (For flowers)
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Step 1:  Cut all of your flower pieces, leaves and swirls from Kunin Class Felt using your Sizzix Big Shot and Bigz dies.  Be sure to make plenty!

Step 2:  Once you have your flowers cut, do your best to assembly them and play with how you want them to be arranged for the Frida flower crown.  When you have them arranged, then go ahead and create your flowers using hot glue.  For the flower centers I rolled up small pieces of my scrap felt.

Step 3:  Take your popcorn box and cover it with your Kunin Presto Felt.  I traced the felt and then cut it to fit the popcorn box.  FUN NOTE:  I still have plenty of leftover felt from this 9 by 12 piece to make at least 2 more Frida boxes!

Step 4:  Now you can add your flowers to the top of your box.  You may need to work on adding additional felt (or foam) to provide dimension/depth to your flower crown.  After that, you can add the facial features with small amounts of hot glue.  I kept it simple with some BLACK eyebrows, BROWN eyes, BLACK nose outline and RED lips.

I am really excited about how my Popcorn Box turned out this year.  I hope you will check out the other boxes that are part of this very crafty blog hop.  Special thanks to Laura Kelly for coordinating and being an amazing crafty inspiration to so many!  Good luck on the GIVEAWAY too – the winner will be announced on October 23, 2016.
