I am back in the craft room making so fun new card kits – and you know what helps me to create new inventory – BEING ORGANIZED!!!
I have a fun and quick DIY Tutorial for a “Cupcake Craft Organizer” – you can use it (like me) as an organizer at your craft table, for party decor or for a gift. It is so simple to make using these awesome trims from Expo International and felt from Kunin Felt. I was so excited to think up a fun, practical and simple project using the Expo International trims – the quality of these trims is so outstanding (see them in my hand, pictured below, to see how thick, plush and sturdy they are) and I am officially very impressed.
A side note on FELT: Last summer I began utilizing felt more and more for my projects, and it has officially become one of my go-to craft supplies! I was inspired by my friend who runs the Coachella Festival Art Studios – I asked her “What is your favorite thing to craft with?” she told me that FELT was her absolute favorite, and now it’s one of my favorites too. I encourage you to ask other crafters the same question.
Let’s get started, here is your craft supplies list:
CUPCAKE CRAFT ORGANIZER
Craft Supplies List
Expo International – Pom Pom (Pea Pod 3/8 Baby Pom Fringe) in Black and Neon Fuschia
Expo International – Ric Rac (5/8 Rayon Medium Ric Rac Trim) in Green
Kunin Felt Group Classic Felt (9 by 12) in White, Black, Apple Green, Candy Pink
Sizzix – Eileen Hull Flower Layers with Heart Petals (#658053) *(I used a similar die.)
Small Cupcake Tin (you can find these at Dollar Tree or at a thrift store)
Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks (I use AdTech Glue Guns)
Note: The die cuts featured in this blog post are the NEW Sizzix – Crafty Chica Day of the Dead Line.Directions
Step 1: Turn on your glue gun and prep your space to have enough trim to wrap about the edge of the cupcake tin.
Step 2: Glue your trims on – one color at a time and try to line them so the poms alternate, it will make your tin look super polished and professional looking.
Step 3: Die cut your flower and leaves pieces, and then assemble them (carefully) using hot glue. For the center of the flower on my organizer, I rolled a small/skinny rectangular piece of felt. I wanted the center to provide some more dimension and texture. Felt is easy to cut, style and have fun with – make a die cut flower your own like I did. You will have plenty of felt to play with for this project. I was tempted to use this flower for a hair clip too! Step 4: Once your flower is assembled/glued, you can now add your ric rac trim to the green felt leaves. Again, be careful when you are using hot glue. You can also use tacky glue such as Aleene’s Turbo Tacky Glue and it will dry clear.
I hope you enjoyed this craft project using Expo International trims. I’m pretty sure I am going to make several of these Cupcake Craft Organizers as gifts and for my charity donation baskets too!
