I am so excited to share a recipe using Honey Nut Cheerios. This treat is perfect for any occasion such as a birthday party, after school snacks or just because. I made this recipe with the thought of my mom and my niece and nephew. My mom is always feeding these hungry kiddos and my niece definitely has the sweet tooth! They kiddos are actually traveling abroad right now, so I have one of my favorite photos to share with you from a past birthday party… we usually refer to them as “Mija” and “Mijo”. They are adorable and full of mischief – and of course always hungry for yummy food! Their parents are foodies, so it makes sense to me that they always have a good appetite. These treats would be perfect for my cuties as a snack, or for their awesome birthday parties that my family throws for them each year. Their parties are well known because they usually include fun party bags designed by my mom, theme decorations, cake and of course – a pinata!
HONEY NUT CHEERIOS DESSERT BARS
My Honey Nut Cheerios Dessert Bars recipe was inspired by a dessert that I found on www.quericavida.com for “Peanut Butter Cereal Bars“. My recipe is actually quite simple with only 4 main ingredients, and 2 optional ingredients to make the bars more tasty and festive. This recipe makes approximately 9-12 bars in a 9 by 9 pan.
3 TBSP Butter, plus 1 TBSP butter to coat the pan
2 TBSP Peanut Butter
10 OZ bag of Large Marshmallows
4 Cups of Honey Nut Cheerios*
Colorful sprinkles (will add crunch and texture to your snack)
Peanut butter chips
Ues a 9 by 9 glass pan, with the 1 TBSP Butter to coat the glass pan.
Melt the butter in a large pot and then add marshmallows to melt, be patient and let everything melt completely so you have a smooth, when the marshmallows are nearly all melted then add the peanut butter to melt in and stir fully.
Take the pot from the hot surface and add in the 4 cups of Honey Nut Cheerios, blending the cereal completely by folding the marshmallow/peanut butter mixture. It will be hot, so be careful and do not get burned! You are almost done. Once fully mixed, now put this delicious cereal mixture into the 9 by 9 pan. Here is a TIP: wet your hands before you pat the cereal mixtures into the pan to prevent them from getting super sticky during the process. Let your desert cool and you can also add sprinkles and peanut butter chips to make your dessert bars festive and even more yummy!
*I was provided a e-gift card to Walmart to buy a Family Size (1 LB, 5.6 OZ) Box of Honey Nut Cheerios. NOTE: You can easily double this recipe using the Family Size Box.
MAKE THIS DESSERT BAR A CRAFTY GIFT!
To make these desserts into a fun party favor or to pack in a lunch, you can use parchment paper and colorful twine to wrap them. I wrapped some treats like this for a recent holiday and got so many nice compliments on my presentation and gift wrapping style.
