Disclosure: I am part of the Laura Kelly Design Team. As part of the team, I get fun products to demonstrate on my blog and I also get monetary compensation for reviewing products. I was provided with Sculpey products for this blog post. All opinions and tips are 100% from me, I hope you enjoy learning about Sculpey clay.
I am so excited to share a few quick tips about working with Sculpey clay – as you know, I’ve been busy working to prepare for the special Open House that I hosted last weekend. It was a wonderful success and I was so happy to show off the space with my friends and family! I also handed out the WORKSHOP schedule for May and June during the Open House (stay tuned for my next blog post for all of those details). After the Open House, I got the chance to crack open my Sculpey clay goodies- weeeeeeeee!!!! I made emoji flair to adhere to some clothespins. It’s a known fact that I love clothespins of all shapes and sizes. They are featured in my Pop Up Shop and now in the Create Studio wall of crafty kits. I’m pretty sure I’ll be making some more of these emoji faces – I have to admit that it was fun to use clay again, the last time I used Sculpey clay was at the Laura Kelly Creative Retreat last fall. Clay, for me, is a material that has the power to soothe and de-stress me – and that is just awesome 🙂Here are some tips that I have for you based on making my emoji designs:
- TIP 1: A little bit goes a long way… My emojis are about the size of a quarter, and the face features only took a small amount of clay. The clay is very forgiving and can be shaped easily. I used the modeling tool to help smooth and create sharp lines for the heart eyes.
- TIP 2: The clay can easily be stored in a sturdy plastic bag or air-tight container after you have opened it – and Sculpey says that it doesn’t dry out – AND this is true because I left my emojis out overnight before I baked them on a plastic dish. They didn’t dry out at all.
- TIP 3: Wash your hands between colors! The red and black were pretty vibrant and the color did get on my hands when I was making my emoji faces. I must confess, I didn’t wash my hands between colors and I should have (sad face emoji).
